Artist Statement:  A mix of vibrant color, loose brush strokes, and whimsy greets your eye as you look at my happy paintings. There is an immediacy about my work, giving it a contemporary flair.

I don’t have to look very far to find inspiration for a painting. My choice of subjects is always a personal challenge and unique to me, ranging from figures in a landscape—mostly family—to Tonka trucks, old stockpots, even gym balls...scenes from everyday life around me. They all have a personal significance.

Artist Biography:  Barbara’s artistic journey grew from early art lessons on Martha’s Vineyard to a Studio Art and Art History major at Smith College. After graduation, she worked for a well-known Southwestern artist at Southern Methodist University. There she learned silk screening, which led to expressing herself through whimsical and witty greeting cards, an enjoyable outlet for expression at a time when work and family otherwise took over. About eight years ago, Barbara began painting seriously again, first with watercolors and then oils. She discovered the vibrancy, richness, and forgiving qualities of oils, through which she was enabled to make a more definitive statement of her ideas.

Barbara is a juried Artist Member of the Marblehead Arts Association and an Artist Member of the Salem Arts Association, Newburyport Art Association, and Swampscott Arts Association. She has exhibited at a variety of venues along the North Shore, including Marblehead, Swampscott, Newbury, Byfield, and Beverly Farms. She is an artist in residence at Brush Strokes Gallery in Marblehead. Commissions are welcome.
