Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet in the Solar System. Conjunctions of planets occur when there is a nearly straight alignment of their orbital positions with the Sun. This framed print of the planetary conjunction of Venus and Jupiter over Red Rock captured in the early evening of February 25, 1999 by John H. Mowbray.
Mowbray is an avid astronomer and photographer who enjoys exploring the universe from the environs of Southern Nevada in general and the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area in particular. Passionate about astronomy, Mowbray and his telescopes have scanned the night skies for years. Capturing on film the last solar eclipse of the 20th century and the first lunar eclipse of the 21st century, Mowbray's photographs of comets and planetary conjunctions serve as his therapy and as a chronicle of unique events of the cosmos.
Mowbray's passion has been featured at the Nevada State Musuem and Historical Society and in CERCA magazine and the Las Vegas Review Journal
