Fund-a-Need 2015 – SLMakers- Makerspace 3D Computer Workshop
What is a Makerspace Workshop-SLMakers?
The Maker Movement is a groundswell of tinkering, amazement and creation! MakerLabs have 3D printers, software, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools plus much much more! We are bringing this movement to SLM!
Our school will be partnering with e-Nable (enablingthefuture.org) a global network of passionate volunteers using 3D printing to give the world a "Helping Hand.
Our new MakerLab at SLM will include two 3D object printers within our Science Lab. Our workshop will be guided through the process of mastering the new hardware technology so to use imagination, create as well as to do good by others by printing and making 3D "prosthetic hands.” This gives our children the exposure and opportunity to fulfill our Christian mission of compassion for those in need.
This Workshop will also give us the capability to:
- Make and build robots
- Create 3D Models and print them
- Do-it-yourself (DIY) projects provide authentic learning.
- Maker spaces encourage students to think critically and work collaboratively.
- Adding art to STEM (STEAM) is a central focus in making.
*and… much much more!
And this is only the beginning! Makerspace labs can be incorporated into libraries, art rooms, and each individual classroom! The movement is what we want to make of it.
