Description

The day: October 30, 2013. In game six of the World Series, the Boston Red Sox rout the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 to earn their eighth World Series Championship, winning it at Fenway Park for the first time since 1918.

To commemorate this special championship victory, L.L.Bean created a new, limited-edition tote (only 3,000 were created), made out of the rain-delay tarp that protected the infield during the 2013 season – the tarp that was there, at Fenway Park, when the Sox clinched the title. Inside the tote is a pocket that’s also made from the rain tarp.

The bag is trimmed with red handles carrying the dates of every Red Sox World Series Championship since their first in 1903. It features a specially designed baseball diamond-inspired patch with the Red Sox logo.

"The tarp comes back from Fenway so dirty that we actually rent an airplane hanger here in Brunswick," said Steve Fuller, L.L. Bean's chief marketing officer. "We hire a tent cleaning company to come in and clean the tarp, then we bring it into the factory to be stitched into bags."
