Unique Hand-Crafted Pottery Ornament from Zan Barnes, owner of Riverwood Pottery. This beautiful hand-crafted ornament is soda fired. Soda firing is a technique where during the firing, the artist dissolves soda ash into water and sprays it into the kiln. The soda boils away into vapor and reacts with the silica in the clay to make a glaze on the surface of the piece. Because the soda vapor is carried through the kiln on the flame, no two pieces are exactly the same. The dynamic flashing on the surface and the iconic orange peel texture are both a product of the soda. Measures 5.5" long.
