Alabaster
Elizabeth Lind, originally from Seattle, grew up in New York City where she studied and performed ballet. Relocating to Rhode Island, she earned her masters degree from RISD while also managing an art gallery. Maintaining a carving studio for over 20 years, Elizabeth creates in stone life-size figures of women and their environments- either real or imagined. She travels to Italy, researching sites rich in ancient female artifacts, mythology, and history.
“Vertigo” depicts a small boat approaching a vortex, caught within the forces of nature. It is a celebration of losing control, yet being fearless of what is ahead. It is hand-carved from a beautiful, translucent piece of pink alabaster that illuminates when placed in front of a light source.
