Size: 4 3/4” x 4 ¼” x 6"

Stoneware with shino glaze to the interior and wood-ash glaze marks to the exterior, wood-fired to cone 10.  The lid is made of wood taken from one of the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial elm trees, across from the Massachusetts State House, during a preservation pruning on December 13, 2014. 

Augustus Saint-Gaudens created the monument in 1884 in honor of the Civil War campaign of the Massachusetts 54^th infantry regiment and it was built around the then existing mature trees.  These English Elm trees are thought to be over 200 years old and are the oldest trees on Boston Common. They are believed to have been planted by John Hancock.
