Title: Portrait of Rosa Bonheur
Medium: Acrylic on Besty pet cone
Demensions: 24" W x 39" H
Description: Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) was a French animalier (animal painter), realist artist, and sculptor. She’s widely considered to have been the most famous female painter of the nineteenth century. Bonheur's artwork reminded the viewer of the significance of the natural world during The Industrial Revolution. Bonheur was a forward-thinking, trailblazing feminist who broke stereotypes and was internationally honored for her artistic achievements.
I painted Rosa Bonheur's portrait for More Than A Cone's auction because she was an animal advocate who clearly thought that, no matter how much mankind advances, animals deserve a tremendous amount of respect. When you look at Boheur’s animal paintings, you can see it in their eyes, her tremendous love for them.
