Description
Tasting Notes
The Terra d'Oro Barbera showcases the refreshing acidity of the Barbera grape and inviting aromas of sweet cherry and dense layers of dark fruit and spice. Etnicing flavors of cherry, cherry cola, warm toasted spice and dark fruit coat the palate and the polished tannins boast an elegant round finish with a voluptuous mouthfeel.
Vineyard Notes
Long celebrated in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy for its rol in Barbera dAlba and Barbera d'Asti, Barbera has found a home in the rolling foothills of Amador County. Barbera is widely planted in California and Montevina/Terra d'Oro Winery was the first in Amador to make a Barbera!
Production Notes
This Barbera is fermented in stainless steel tanks and undergoes a full two weeks of pumpovers to extract maximum color and flavor. Based on the belief that barrel aging is essential, we use French and American oak barrels to integrate toasty oak aromas.
Winemaker Notes
The aging process takes 14 months, but the seamless transition from fruit to oak lends to sweet vanilla and butterscotch notes.
Food Pairing Notes
This wine is a perfect complement to savory dishes, such as roasted, glazed pork and braised lamb.
Special Instructions
Zinfandel is our passion, and lucky for us we are blessed with perfect growing conditions for this world-class varietal. Whether enjoying our Amador Zinfandel, or one of our three unique single vineyard offerings, you’ll experience the region’s trademark "Shenandoah spice" that makes our Zins stand above the rest.
In addition to producing top-notch Zinfandel, we find it hard to ignore our Italian heritage, mainly because Italian varietals make such food friendly wines. There’s something about our climate, elevation, and rich rocky soil that allows traditional Italian varietals to not simply thrive here—but actually achieve true greatness. Many early Italian settlers sensed this, and widely planted vineyards with the grapes that they knew best.
We are extremely fortunate that two of Italy’s most revered red wines—Sangiovese (Tuscany) and Barbera (Piedmonte)—thrive in the rocky, iron-rich soils of Amador County, and develop into lush, well-balanced wines suitable for aging or immediate consumption. Our Amador County Rosé, made from Nebbiolo (Piedmonte), displays a wonderful off-dry style preferred by Europeans for centuries. For our white offerings, we carefully selected vineyards throughout California for our Moscato (Piedmonte) and chose grapes grown in Santa Barbara for our Pinot Grigio (Alto Adige) resulting in crisp, vibrant, easy-drinking wines.
Try some—and let Terra d’Oro inspire your palate!
