Description

Lucy Rubin's vibrant, original drawing of this beautiful, endangered bird - a Gouldian Finch - will steal your eye...and a place in your home and heart. Lucy Rubin, too, has a heart of gold. She knows climate change's destructive path will affect the subjects of her heart - the creatures of Earth.

Lucy painted this colourful Gouldian finch, native to Australia, because it currently requires protection by conservation programs. South Australia's National Parks & Wildlife Department reported that over 13,000 Gouldian Finches are cared for by aviculturists who raise, breed, preserve avian habitat, and improve public awareness campaign to perpetuate the species. There is an estimated 100,000 Gouldian Finches now, but in1992, these birds were classified as "endangered in the wild" under IUCN's criteria C2ai: the viable population was estimated to be less than 2,500 mature individuals, no permanent subpopulation was known to contain more than 250 mature individuals, and a continuing decline was observed in the number of mature individuals.

Artist Lucy Rubin has always been inspired by nature around her. "There's so much beauty" everywhere to sketch, Lucy believes, and it's never to late to begin. But we must begin to save her subjects of our Earth. Featured by the East End of Long Island's premier arts and culture journal, Dan's Papers, and part of the Artists Alliance and The Guild Hall Clothesline Art Sale, Rubin is irrepressibly optimistic, “thrilled” and humbly thankful for so much attention. Read about her love of nature, inspirations, approach, creative family, secrets, spiritualality, and philosophy here.
