Description

Help St. Elizabeth School Implement its SOCIAL THINKING Program with these WISH LIST REGISTRY Items!

Through the SES Golf Tournament's online auction, SES donors can “buy” items for the school, just like you might for a wedding or baby registry!  Items, such as the one described below, help students during therapy sessions, in the classroom, and beyond. This year, our Wish List Registry is filled with curriculum
notebooks, books, posters, and other items needed to help SES adopt a SOCIAL THINKING program school-wide.  Social Thinking is an expansion of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) and teaches students how their behavior directly impacts those around them. In other words, it teaches them to think beyond themselves and gives them a deeper understanding of those around them.

Building Blocks of Social Development for Young Children – Poster  (Six needed.)

The Building Blocks of Social Development poster was created as a visual learning tool to supplement understanding of the concepts included in our early learner Social Thinking curriculum The Incredible Flexible You™. It shows the building blocks of social development in younger children and the connection to Social Thinking.

Each block represents a fundamental capacity that is part of the foundation of social learning for all early learners. Each layer represents capacities that are interrelated and interdependent as well as emerging in a similar developmental time frame. One synergistic layer builds upon the next resulting in a fully functional and flexible, kindergarten-ready child, armed with the social problem-solving skills needed to play with others and learn in a group.

Social Thinking is the connection that pulls all of these blocks together for children with social learning challenges. It becomes the supportive framework that gives students the concepts, language, and social learning experiences they need to optimize their development.

As the child progresses in elementary school, the social learning achieved throughout this pyramid supports academic success in reading comprehension, written language, participation in lab work in science, listening, and speaking.

The poster is an excellent tool during IEP/treatment meetings and staff discussions to guide a deeper understanding of the social learning process in young children.
