1/2 Day Guided Canoe/Kayak Trip on the Manitowish River with John Bates

Item Number: 203
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
The Manitowish River flows quietly for 42 miles from High Lake to the Flambeau Flowage. The river served as a major fur trade route for the French Voyageurs, and archeologists have found Native American sites on the Manitowish chain of lakes that date back 8,000 years. Portions of the river are designated by the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources as an “exceptional resource water.”
We’ve broken the trip down into 5 sections, and the winner can pick whichever one he/she wants, all of which provide great wildlife and botanical values. We’ll paddle at a moderate pace stopping occasionally to discuss various ecological features of the river and its cultural history. “Manitowish” means “playful spirit,” which describes the character of the river very well - no rapids, but playful.
