THE TWO MINNELLIS - VINCENTE AND LIZA, TOGETHER ON A RARE ONE-OF-A-KIND THEATRICAL TREASURE
Before moving to Los Angeles, where he would become one of Hollywood’s most esteemed Academy Award-winning directors, Vincente Minnelli worked as a costume and set designer at the famed Radio City Music Hall, where a decade later some of his most celebrated movies would premiere.
Take home a vintage drawing of a scenic curtain, designed by Mr. Minnelli for a Radio City production number entitled “Fight,” which premiered the week of July 20, 1936 (as noted by Mr. Minnelli on the drawing.)
This is a delicate and colorful sketch, featuring scantily clad muscle men, designed by an artist and a filmmaker who would ultimately become among Hollywood’s most beloved.
Signed originally by Mr. Minnelli, this rare collector’s item has also been inscribed by his Oscar winning daughter, Liza Minnelli, who was so thrilled when she saw it that she added “Vincente’s daughter!” proudly below her name.
This is a Hollywood and Minnelli family treasure. For you!
This lot also includes “Radio City Music Hall: A Legend Reborn,” the commemorative program presented to VIP guests at the celebration of Radio City’s restoration in 1999. With an introduction by Liza Minnelli that acknowledges her father’s history with the house, it is the ultimate Radio City Music Hall keepsake.
