Description
Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon were Broadway royalty. With more than 30 shows and 13 Tony Awards between them, they created and performed in the most celebrated and beloved musicals of the 20th century. In 1999, Ms. Verdon was the artistic adviser on the Tony Award-winning musical Fosse, where, with Ann Reinking and Chet Walker, she lovingly recreated the best of Mr. Fosse’s brilliant work with a stunning company of dancers.
The original production of Bob Fosse’s brilliant Chicago, with a timeless score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, starring Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera, opened at the 46th Street Theatre on June 3, 1975, and ran for 936 performances. This July, 40 years later, Hamilton began to load into the 46th Street Theatre, now christened the Richard Rodgers, in advance of its acclaimed opening.
As the crew prepared the stage, an incredible theatrical treasure was found behind the fly rail. There, where it had been hidden for nearly 40 years, was a Chicago tote bag, signed by the incomparable Gwen Verdon. And now this nearly lost, unexpectedly found theatrical treasure can be yours.
