Louisa Sawyer Lindquist is a native New Yorker, who developed a strong interest in Spanish wines while working in the wine trade. She moved to San Francisco in 1992, and while touring the wine country, met and married Bob Lindquist of Qupe fame. In 2000, Louisa released her first Albarino, made by her husband Bob at Qupe, and established her wildly acclaimed Verdad. The name comes from the Spanish expression “es la verdad” (“that’s the truth”). In the early 2000s, Louisa and Bob bought 80 acres in the Edna Valley, and planted 40 acres of vines. Tempranillo is a premium varietal from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions of Spain. Being a bit low in acidity and sugar, it is usually blended with some other reds. Here we have 76% Tempranillo, 18% Grenache and 6% Syrah. Bright ruby in color. Aromas of rose petals, ripe cherries and blackberries. Nice rich entry, with subdued tannins. Mouthwatering. Black cherries, cocoa, wild strawberries and sweet oak. Pepper and spice. Bright. Rich finish and aftertaste. Wonderful wine.
