Description
3 bottles of 2009 Qupe Syrah – Central Coast
Qupe was formed in 1982, when Bob Lindquist was still working for Zaca Mesa. In 1989, he and Jim Clendenen, of Au Bon Climat fame, leased land in the Bien Nacido Vineyard, and built a winery to jointly house their individual brands. In 2002, Bob and his wife Louisa, who has a brand called Verdad, bought 80 acres in the Edna Valley and planted 40 acres of vineyard. It is called the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard (Sawyer being Louisa’s maiden name). This classic Syrah is extremely popular, and accounted for over 50% of Qupe’s production in 2009. It is essentially a blend of cool climate Santa Barbara grapes and those of the warm climate of Paso Robles. Bright, dark red in color. Rich, smooth entry with polished tannins. Beautiful aromas. Spicy, with a subtle crispness. Soft and round. Nicely balanced, with layers of dark red fruit. Mouthwatering. Long finish and aftertaste. Will age well. A delicious Syrah.
