Description

Enjoy a tour of Kingston's historic Stockade District for up to five plus a $200 gift certificate at Le Canard Enchaine restaurant, voted the Best French Restaurant North of Manhattan. Long-time Kingston resident, local historian, and former chair of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation and current member of the SUNY New Paltz College Council Eli Basch will lead a private tour of Kingston's Stockade District, also known as Uptown Kingston. This Kingston district is the original site of the mid-17th century Dutch settlement of Wiltwyck, one of three original Dutch settlements in New York where the outline of the surrounding stockade is still evident. Historic buildings in the area include the original Ulster County courthouse, the Senate House where the state of New York was established in 1777, and the Old Dutch Church, a National Historic Landmark.

Tour and lunch to be scheduled.
