Norm Magnusson, whose work is currently on display in The Dorsky’s Hudson Valley Artists 2015 exhibition, is an artist/activist who lives and works in Woodstock, NY. He began his career creating animal paintings that offered social commentaries before turning to more pointedly political artwork. His work is in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art (Franklin Furnace Artist's Book Archive), The Springfield Museum of Art, and numerous other public and private collections. He was honored with a grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in 2008 for the realization of "On this site stood - lower Manhattan" a project to put ‘historical' plaques with contemporary social content around lower Manhattan in summer 2009—a project later expanded into the I-75 Project. From this project to Magnusson’s more recent “Funism” series, all of the artist’s work shares an activist’s touch, with mix of humor and pathos that subvert the light-hearted visuals.
