Description

Tour for Two to Starn Studios, East End Artisan Galleries PLUS a $50 Gift Certificate to The Hop

Artists Doug and Mike Starn, known primarily for working conceptually with photography, first received international attention at the 1987 Whitney Biennial. More recently, at their mammoth studio laboratory in Beacon, the former Tallix Foundry, the Starns created the first Big Bambú, a constantly evolving sculpture formed by more than 2,500 bamboo poles, first installed on the roof of The Met in 2010. Their enormous studio allows Doug and Mike to continue development of Big Bambú while working on concurrent series that include The No Mind Not Thinks No Things and other Buddhist explorations, photomicrographs of snow crystals, and a re-exploration of the late 19th century color carbon printing process.

After your visit, join noted art advisor and critic Reagan Upshaw and Dorsky Museum Director Sara Pasti on a visit to nearby Wickham Studios, featuring hand-crafted wood furniture, and Niche Modern, which specializes in hand-blown glass lighting fixtures. Then, bring your $50 gift certificate to The Hop, which features artisanal beers, unique wines and a delicious locally-sourced meals prepared by CIA-trained chefs.

To be scheduled in advance with Tour Guide Reagan Upshaw.
