Description
This unique basket is an assortment of handpicked beers from a beer connoisseur who also does his own brewing! If you are adventurous about beer, or you would like to become more of a beer buff, but you don’t know where to start- this is your basket. Below are small reviews about each beer from the beer master himself! Along with the beer, this basket also comes with 6 Stella Artois Callices. 1. All Day IPA is a session IPA, which means it’s meant to be an easy drinking IPA with “normal” range ABV, so you can drink more than an average IPA that hangs around 7 or 8% ABV. 2. Passion Fruit Prussia is a moderately soured beer with a nice touch of tart, enough to make you slightly pucker. It’s brewed with a generous amount of passion fruit and is light bodied making this a great warm weather beer. 3. Resurrected IPA is comprised of mosaic hops which carry a mangoey, citrus, earthy pine, herbal flavor. If you’re a hop fan this one is an easy drinker at 6.5% and pairs nicely with spicy food and beef. 4. Devils Due is a limited (brewed once) beer that has been blended by DuClaw with their Retribution, a single barrel bourbon aged stout that has a thin mouth, but great notes of espresso, dark chocolate, and vanilla and their Devils Milk, an American Barleywine with a high sweetness, high ABV, and an unusually creamy body. These two high ABV beers (11.5% & 10.6%) with opposing mouthfeels and complimenting flavors provides a super smooth, semi bourbony blend that you may only get to try once. 5. Not Your Father’s Root Beer is more a malt beverage than a craft beer, but nonetheless it’s grabbing the attention of everyone in the country. This beverage drinks a bit sweeter than your average root beer with some extra vanilla flavor, but is strikingly similar to root beer when it comes to mouthfeel and carbonation/fizz. Most might enjoy this beverage over a scoop or two of their favorite ice cream while others might enjoy it by itself. Regardless, if you DO end up enjoying this beverage you might be inclined to search for some newly canned 6 packs or find it’s higher 10.7% ABV variant, bottled in a 22 ounce format. 6. Bourbon County Brand Stout is released once a year in 5 variants on Black Friday. The variant releases are different in every state and one variant can only be found in Chicago, IL. This beer is sought after by craft beer enthusiasts around the country. This high ABV stout (13.8%-14.2%) is steeped in chocolate and caramel malts to provide sweet aromas and flavors, and aged in bourbon barrels providing notes of charred oak, bourbon, vanilla, and smoke. Bourbon County is arguably the one barrel aged stout that made barrel aged stouts as popular as they are today. Goose Island prides themselves on this series of stouts, as they spend all year perfecting old flavors and developing new ones to keep their lineup exciting. This rare gem is perfect for sharing with a few friends or enjoying as an after dinner drink. 7. Citra IPA is exactly what the name denotes, citrus notes of orange rind, lemon, and grapefruit coming from the type of hop (Citra) used in the boil and fermenter. Additionally, IPA which more than gives away the hop presence/flavors. 8. Paradox “Smokehead” is a retired (not brewed any longer) beer bottled in 2009, meaning it’s well aged, not bad. At 10% the beer was a bit “hot” (boozy) on the palate, but now it’s a lot smoother. Much like bourbon county this beer has little to no head on it. A heavy nose and mouth of peat/smoke come in from the whiskey on the front, with lighter notes of scotch and oak. This beers backend flavor is that of a dry, sweet, charred taste with little to no astringency from the whiskey present. A very developed beer that has had 6 years to mellow out providing an optimal consumption time. 9. Maple Mistress is Saucony’s version of a pumpkin beer even though it’s brewed with butternut squash and maple syrup. The well-balanced rum spices (clove, cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg) along with the butternut squash provide a nice pumpkin flavor while the maple adds a slightly sweet characteristic. This beer comes in at 9.5% ABV, but you’d never know it due to its easy drinkability. 10. Tarte Nouveau is deemed a “session sour” which denotes low ABV with high drinkability. This beer is kettle-soured with lactobaccilus providing a nice up front citrus tart characteristic and an apple, pear, bready mid to back end. 11. 2015 Bigfoot Barleywine has big sweet dark fruits (dates, figs, and raisins) and caramel/toffee flavor profile with a big noticeable ABV. Normally one might let this cellar for at least a couple years to mellow it out, but why not try it now and if you enjoy the flavors go out and grab another one to age. 12. Brewed with Centennial hops known for their citrus, floral, and pine notes , Two Hearted is exactly that, a smooth, hoppy, highly drinkable American IPA. 13. Joint Custody is a limited (brewed once) collaboration beer between the Massachusetts brewery Jack’s Abbey and Vermont brewery Otter Creek. This Pilsner style beer comes with a heavier than average hop presence providing a light citrus/lemon flavor, but it’s balanced nicely with a bready malt presence that comes up quick on the mid to back mouth. 14. JMM provides a heavy coffee presence from the cold press addition after primary fermentation and a nice thick mouthfeel from the brown sugar added. The coffee is more sweet than bitter due to being cold pressed and with the addition of the sugar. Lactose and chocolate are also in the profile, but I felt they went by pretty fast, leaving the coffee to dominate. 15. Peach IPA is very peachy. If you’re sensitive to hops you will definitely taste them, but if you’re a frequent IPA drinker, the mouth quenching peach will be the most noticeable flavor for you in this brew. Limited release from a newer brewery in New Jersey. 16. Sorry Chicky is a limited (brewed once) beer from Burley Oak brewery. A lactobaccilus addition provides some intense up front sour, with some good funkiness and hops in the back. This beer is dry hopped (hops added in fermenter) to give an extra kick of fresh hop aroma and flavor. The Maryland brewery claims this as the favorite in their lineup, so if you’re a fan of sours and hops you might want to get a hold of this one. 17. Hell hath no fury has a sweet, smooth mouth with hints of dark fruits and plums more than likely coming from the blend of Belgian abbey style yeasts used to ferment this beer. 18. Limbo IPA is a 7.6% IPA with notes of tropical fruits and citrus coming from a new breed of hops located in the Pacific Northwest and Australia. |
