Current Season
We are more excited than ever to present our biggest, boldest season yet: TRUTH AND DARE. This year, we'll take you from your cozy seat to daring places: from the football gridiron to an abandoned motel room, from 1833 London to 1960s San Francisco, from a backstage romance to the birth of modern acting. Our audacious Nine-Play Season offers us fresh truths, dangerous truths, and inconvenient truths - and dares us to change ourselves and the world around us. These are big plays tackling big issues, and they force us to stretch our stage muscles in our Empathy Gym.
San Francisco Playhouse (formerly SF Playhouse) is a non-profit theater company in San Francisco, California founded in 2003 by Bill English and Susi Damilano. The theater stages eight plays yearly, including Broadway plays, musicals, and world and regional premieres.
In 2012, San Francisco Playhouse moved to a 199-seat theater at 450 Post Street, inside of the Kensington Park Hotel. The venue, formerly home to The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, was constructed in 1925 as a lodge for the Elks.
As part of its mission to shape and promote the growth of performing arts in the Bay Area, San Francisco Playhouse created the Rising Star Program, which provides theatre tickets to under-served youths in San Francisco and surrounding communities.
