Rob Scott is a visual artist and jazz musician, with a BFA in Painting from Temple University's Tyler School of Art and MA in Modern American Music from the Longy School of Music. He has always been close to nature, spending summers fishing, crabbing, and exploring the coastline of the Jersey Shore, where his grandparents had a house on the bay. After his grandmother sold the house, his love of the sea shifted to Cape Cod, where he has lived and worked every summer for 25 years. As a house painter in Hingham, Massachusetts, one of his clients happened to be an old-school decoy carver who gave classes. He found his passion and has been carving nonstop since! His fine arts background is reflected in his work, especially with color and the painting of the whales, birds and fish. He is constantly researching techniques of the art form, and combining his findings with prior knowledge of color and painting. His artistic vision is to honor the decoy tradition, while incorporating fine art elements. Folk art meets Fine art. Every piece is an original, one-of-a-kind, and carved with love. Have a special request for a certain type of carving? Talk to him and he will see what he can do.
