Founded in 1987, NMWA is the only major museum in the world solely dedicated to recognizing women’s creative contributions. By bringing to light remarkable women artists of the past while also promoting the best female artists working today, the museum directly addresses the gender imbalance in the presentation of art in the U.S. and abroad, thus ensuring great women artists a place of honor now and into the future.

Tours of NMWA’s collection for adult groups feature selections that give visitors an overview of the contributions of 16th–21st-century women artists. These tours last 45–60 minutes, and generally focus on one exhibition of the collection, emphasizing discovery, interpretation, and conversation. Guides may adapt tours to fit the interests and needs of each group upon request.
