Kids Dig NY offers campers ages 8-15 an authentic field archaeology experience. Taught by educator Dr. Susan Paynter and archaeologist David Paynter, the program is customized for the interests of children. The young archaeologists begin their excavation with surface collections that help determine the best site for the initial test pits. Children learn digging techniques and meticulously identify coordinates and depth as they log their collections. Once they find an artifact it remains in-situ while it is brushed and cataloged. The dig concludes as the artifacts are curated for the student museum.

(Two prior excavations at this site by university groups uncovered a number of artifacts from the Paleo-Indian and Dutch Colonial period along with a rock shelter once used to store pelts)!

 

The cost for one week is $300. and for two weeks is $525.
