Description
In the spring of 1991, Meadow Star and jockey Jerry Bailey and Lite Light and her jockey, Corey Nakatani, brought an exciting rivalry to Belmont Park. Meadow Star, considered one of the greatest two-year-old fillies in history, had defeated Lite Light in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Fillies the previous November. Now three-years-old, Meadow Star and Lite Light had their rematch at Belmont for the 35th running of the Mother Goose. The two top fillies, both carrying 121 pounds, battled to the wire with Meadow Star prevailing by the smallest of noses. Hall of Fame trainer Leroy Jolley, who trained Meadow Star, dubbed the race "The Mother of All Gooses." Lite Light, owned by rap singer M.C. Hammer, would come back to defeat Meadow Star in thier last meeting, setting a record in her nine-length victory in the 1 1/4-mile Coaching Club American Oaks. 11" x 14" photo signed by famed photographer, Joel Silva
