Description

Tired of your chintzy digital tuner? In this class—ÂÂ?hosted by SMS parent and after school STEM instructor extraordinaire, Nick Flowers—ÂÂ?the winning bidder (and a friend or sibling) will spend 1-2 hours building an all-analog tuner from raw components! The tuner is based on Hewlett's design from the 1930s (HP's first product) and we will build it from discrete components (resistors, capacitors, op-amp, amplifier & speaker).

We will also discuss sound and frequency;see the waveform on the scope, and observe the effect of changing frequency/amplitude. Soldering is optional (but encouraged!).

Unfortunately, I can't guarantee a production-quality device. (Don't expect this to last too long, but it will be super-cool while it lasts!)

Only 1 tuner will be built (not one per participant).
