It was in 1985 that Rodney began his career as a barber in a shop with his cousin in Allen. After gaining some mastery of his trade, and with a little serendipitous luck, the opportunity came in 1988 for Rodney to open Rod’s Barber Shop. Rod’s Barber Shop has been in the same location for 24 years now, and Rodney has been involved in many community activities, using Rod’s Barber Shop as the center point. According to Rod he feels that “Barber shops are seen as a dying concept. "I want to maintain this high sense of respectability and tradition in our community right here in Allen, as a dedicated barber.”
