About Daniel Cummings:

In Daniel Cummings’ oil paintings, drawings, and sculptures, the geometric and painterly merge to form a signature Abstract Expressionism-imbued style. Ranging from colorful to black and white, energetic to restrained, geometric to gestural, Cummings’ paintings are known for their illusorily simple compositions that belie complex figure/ground relationships. For instance, 100% juice (2011) features an amorphous blue form rendered with loose brushstrokes, hovering over an image composed of intersecting, color-filled lines. Cummings’ playful energy has earned him comparisons to Joan Mitchell. Meanwhile, his sculptures interpret similar formal concerns in 3-D, as illustrated by Knickpoint (2012), a bright yellow enamel-on-steel structure that forms three-quarters of an oval on the ground but takes on hard angles and verticality at one extreme.

Daniel Cummings lives and works in Los Angeles. He has a MFA from UCLA and BFA from Bard College.  Solo shows include Santa Monica Museum of Contemporary Arts; Acme Los Angeles; Cultural Arts Center MD.
