Description

Winning bidder will receive a weekend stay, mutually agreed-upon, at the cabin of Devotion parents Charles Morgan and Cathy Loula. This modern, well-stocked cabin, on a hundred wild and beautiful acres just a couple hours from Boston, has plenty of room for a large family or a gathering of friends.  There are two small but regular bedrooms on the second floor, one with a king bed, one with a bunkbed (lower bunk is a full bed)-- there is a tiny bedroom on the first floor (with a full bed, not much else), and there is an attic bedroom with king size bed (or two twins) too.  Additionally, there are screened sleeping porches just off the upstairs bedrooms.

The cabin is available for many weeks during the spring, summer, and fall (with the exception of most August weekends, Columbus Day weekend, and Thanksgiving weekend). The cabin is located in southern Vermont, just outside of Brattleboro in the town of West Dummerston, about two hours from Boston.

Environmentalist's Dream Cabin in Vermont

On a hundred beautiful woodland acres in Southern Vermont (about two hours from Boston), on top of a hill at the end of a long, rugged dirt road, this comfortable 3-bedroom cabin is completely off-grid (run totally by solar panels and wind turbine), yet has plenty of power for everything from the coffee grinder to the dishwasher.  This is a place for folks who like to be in the thick of nature, falling asleep to the cry of coyotes and the hoot of owls at night, and waking up to the mellifluous chatter of dozens of species of birds as the sun rises over Mt. Monadnock in the East.

There is a beautiful clean swim pond, walking trails right from the cabin, half-court basketball and ping pong in the barn, all in the midst of the unspoiled flora and fauna for which Vermont is renown. The small, quaint, thriving town of Brattleboro is a short drive away, with all its wonderful shops, good restaurants, and a fine art museum.  Yet you may not want to leave the hill once you have succumbed to the relaxing hypnotic effects of this incredibly private and revivifying vacation spot.

Kids and grownups love the open space, the quiet, the freedom, and the wildness. But this is not a place for everyone: if you are not the outdoorsy type, don't know (or want to know) how to build a fire, and drive a car that has never seen dirt or mud,  you might want to think seriously about whether you are ready for a Thoreau-type experience.  (At the same time, a caretaker rents a neighboring cabin— you are unlikely to see him, but he is available for advice, as needed)
