Description

Executive chef/partner Floyd Cardoz (North End Grill, Tabla) brings his bright, flavorful cooking to White Street, a new modern American restaurant from authors and media entrepreneurs Dan Abrams and Dave Zinczenko along with Christine Cole, a New York restaurant veteran.

The partners’ friendship began at BONDST, where Cole was general manager for 11 years and Abrams and Zinczenko were regulars. Drawn together by their love of food and wine and their passion for the burgeoning downtown restaurant scene, the three resolved to open a restaurant of their own—one that would reflect their mutual ideal of great cuisine partnered with a smart, inspiring social setting. Their plan crystallized when they met Cardoz, whose cooking they had long admired.  At White Street, Cardoz’s menu highlights seasonal produce and reflects his experience working in top kitchens in New York and abroad. Dishes such as hamachi tartare with hearts of palm and homemade cider, spiced braised short ribs with mustard purée, grits and fresh horseradish, and seared shitake mushrooms with braised fennel, spiced squash purée and sunflower sprouts demonstrate Cardoz’s refined technique and distinct approach to flavor.

Located in a 19th-century building that was once an armory, the space has been dramatically reimagined by Nella Vetrina to capture the sophistication and glamour of old New York.  Guests enter through a lounge where they can savor refreshing, classic cocktails. A wine vault houses the restaurant’s extensive selection; Abrams is a passionate collector. The adjoining dining room boasts soaring ceilings adorned with crystal chandeliers and walls lined with Venetian mirrors. Black-and-white mosaic tile floors, leather club chairs, palms, and brass fixtures throughout create an elegant atmosphere that is at once grand and intimate. A private room accommodates small groups in an intimate setting and a private section of the main dining room can be reserved for mid-size events, while for larger affairs, the entire space can be secured.  With White Street, Abrams, Zinczenko, Cole and Cardoz introduce a new dining destination to Manhattan that’s ideal for a celebratory meal or casual bite.
