More about Director's Choice

The ballet world is talking about Silicon Valley Ballet. See what the buzz is about with this trio of works personally selected by Artistic Director José Manuel Carreño to showcase the impressive range and versatility of SVB at this exciting time in it's evolution.

Ohad Naharin's unforgettable Minus 16 is a thrilling exploration of the human experience featuring a delightfully eclectic score ranging from Dean Martin to mambo to traditional Israeli folk music. Described by the New York Times as "one of the most important choreographers in the world," and by Dance Magazine as "the most widely worshipped guru of modern dance," Naharin's work will leave you surprised and affected. Naharin and his Batsheva Dance Company are the subjects of an internationally acclaimed new documentary, Mr. Gaga.

Balanchine's Who Cares? is a 20th century favorite is danced to the songs of George Gershwin, and described by the New York Times as "a glittering homage to Manhattan, you can't help but skip merrily along." Featuring orchestrated versions of some of Gershwin's most catchy tunes, including Fascinating Rhythm, Strike up the Band, and The Man I Love, this large scale work features a huge cast, sparkling costumes, and infectious choreography that will have you dancing along in your seat.

Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's 2014 Prism is a mesmerizing contemporary work, using Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert as its musical inspiration. This edgy and sinuously beautiful work will challenge the SVB dancers with Lopez Ochoa's signature hypnotic style.
