Part of the beauty of childhood is the thrill from all things magical, and few legends are more magical and mysterious than the Mermaid. This Mermaid is draped in the jewels of the sea, items she has culled in a lifetime of ocean exploration. She's not shy: she sparkles like the sun. The Pre-K 3 children were happy to weld on layers of stone and crystals. They took particular pleasure in searching for hidden pieces like tiny turquoise skulls with diamond eyes. And they exercised superb fine motor skills, beading wire to make bracelets and hair. I think of this lady as the Disco Mermaid, and when you see the sun splinter off her scales, you'll agree.
