Description

Welcome to our cozy, renovated farmhouse on 20 private acres. Located in Clermont NY, just 2 hours from NYC, and 20 minutes away from Rhinebeck and from Hudson, it is an excellent base camp for exploring the Hudson Valley. Frontage on the Ro-Jan river offers excellent trout fishing and swimming.  Located on a quiet country road, the house is very family friendly with lots of space to play and run.

We are offering a three night stay for the weekend of the bidder’s choice, any weekend from  April 1 to May 21, 2016. For more pictures and information about the area please check:

The River House

The Space

The original farmhouse dates back to the mid 1800s and was lovingly restored in 2009. The gourmet kitchen is all new, fully-stocked with plates and flatware for eight and includes all new appliances: stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, Samsung double-door refrigerator. Gourmet cooks will love the pantheon of cookware and kitchen layout while the rest of us enjoy the al fresco dining on the porch. Pour yourself some coffee from the french press and stroll directly from the kitchen to the porch to enjoy the wonderfully expansive views of the field and woods. The house comes equipped with a washer/dryer and two full baths.

With three bedrooms and a pullout couch, the house can comfortably sleep seven people. Like most older farmhouses, the bedrooms are small but the common rooms are light, comfortable and well furnished. There is a landline phone (cell service is blissfully weak) and Wi-Fi access. No cable for the TV but there is an internet-based Roku device for movies and videos.

Overall, the River House setting is a relaxing weekend getaway, a lovely retreat for one or two people or a wonderful opportunity for a family or group of friends to explore the Hudson Valley. The large front and back yards are shaded by massive ancient maple trees and deer, wild turkey, and hawks are common sights in the meadow. We have even seen bald eagles a few times each summer.

Rhinebeck and Hudson are 15 miles away with great restaurants, shopping and stores. Closer by, Bard College is a 10-minute drive away and offers a full complement of films, concerts and performances during the year. Seasonal fruit picking at Greig Farm and Mead Farm nearby makes those homemade pies and scones extra delicious. Wildlife walks along Tivoli Bays and the Poet's Walk along the Hudson River are perfect ways to become acquainted with the Hudson Valley watershed area. Ten minutes away, the town of Red Hook offers a range of restaurants, shopping, coffee houses and a local movie theater. Rhinebeck has more restaurants as well as bookstores and the art house cinema, Upstate Cinema. Hudson, 15 minutes to the north, offers more restaurants, antique stores and art galleries. Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck offers a variety of summer events.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the house, the river and all of the acreage, but we use the barn and the garage for storage. Occasionally in the summer months we may need to come by to access our camping gear, kayaks and other things in the outbuildings.

Interaction with Guests

Our house is a little over a mile away and we are around most weekends should anything come up that we can help with or if you just want suggestions for fun things to do and places to explore. We are also available by phone for help and suggestions during your stay.
