Description
- 2013 A Raffinelli Zinfandel (valued at $55): Tasting Notes: Classically structured and styled with an expressive vibrancy of deep dark fruit and intriguing layers of spice and vanilla. Framed by toasty oak, with flavors and nuances that play on your palate, while the soft tannins keep the balance friendly and the finish delectable to make every meal an adventure. Donated by the Valentine Family.
- 2013 Calera Central Coast Pinot Noir (valued at $29): Savory, earthy aromas of mushrooms, black pepper, iron and cranberry arise from this blend of nine vineyards, many of which are usually featured in single-vineyard selections. Umami rules the palate, and it’s quite full for a lighter-colored wine, with brown spice, light red fruit flavors and expertly balanced acidity. It has a light ruby color to go with perfumed, spice-filled notes of red flowers, sweet cherries, rose petal and sassafras. Beautiful on the palate, with a light, airy feel, plenty of acidity and a great finish, this should represent a super value and drink well for 4-5 years. The 2013 is particularly successful, a floral wine with a breezy pink grapefruit and red raspberry tang, the flavors fresh, polished and lasting. It’s completely clean and ready to drink. A relatively high-toned nose is composed primarily of softly spiced red cherry that displays background nuances of raspberry and lavender. Once again, Calera has turned out a delicious Pinot Noir that overachieves for its very modest price point. In particular, the various Central Coast appellation wines are a steal. I can't recommend these new releases highly enough. 92 points Wine Enthusiast. 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. 90 points Wine & Spirits. Donated by the Okamoto Family.
- 2012 Kunde Sonoma Valley Barbera (valued at $30): Winemaker’s notes: The rolling hills of Kunde have some secret ‘hot spots’ where we grow Barbera. Exposing the clusters to sunlight helps to break down the acid which is so high and yet enchances the beautiful fruit flavors from these grapes. When I think Barbera, I look to full flavored cheese and garlic. Serve this bold red with a spicy bolognese sauce served along fresh sourdough laden with a garlic butter sauce. Donated by the McFarlane Family.
- 2013 Crooked Path Paso Robles Cabernet (valued at $40): Winemaker’s notes for 2012 vintage: A lively core of vibrant acidity and supple tannins frame undulating contours of plums, figs, raspberries, and cherries. Hints of smoky pepper, dark chocolate, and dusty sage appear on the appealing finish that lingers with freshness and persistence. Our Paso Robles appellation continues to produce expressive and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with signature quality and finesse. Donated by the Fukuda Family.
- 2013 Joel Gott Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (valued at $25): Winemaker's Notes: The 2013 Oregon Pinot Noir has aromatics of ripe cherries, red plum and raspberries with hints of tobacco and vanilla spice. The wine opens with lush, fruit flavors leading to a juicy mid-palate and a long, elegant finish. Donated by the Murdin Family.
- Veuve Clicquot Champagne NV (valued at $50): Winemaker's Notes: Our Brut Yellow Label reflects the superb vineyards we own and the consistent nature of our House style. The predominance of Pinot Noir provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot, while a touch of Pinot Meunier rounds out the blend. Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse essential in a perfectly balanced wine. Critical Acclaim WW92 Wilfred Wong of Wine.com - Medium straw, yellow color; complex aromas of ripe apple and light cream, excellent depth and persistence; medium bodied, active and layered on the palate; dry, medium acidity, well balanced; bright and beautiful ripe fruit and cream in the flavors; medium finish, lasting impression in the aftertaste. WS90 Wine Spectator - "Well-knit and balanced, with vibrant acidity framing hints of blackberry, white cherry, biscuit, honey and candied lemon zest. Offers a lightly smoky finish.
- 2012 Brack Mountain Bench Pinot Noir (valued at $20): Winemaker’s notes: The 2012 harvest could be described as “textbook”, or simply “fantastic”. Growing conditions throughout the year produced an abundant crop of mature grapes with balanced flavors and good structure. An abundance of California coastal weather-- fog in the morning, and warm sunshine in the afternoon-- often sending temperatures into the mid 90s and then quickly cooling off after sunset. Fruit quality was exceptional. Bright ruby color, this wine offers intense floral and raspberry aromas. In the mouth the wine has a good intensity with darker earth flavors and bright raspberry fruit. Fine tannins add structure and balance to a long finish. Donated by the Fukuda Family.
- 2010 NxNW Syrah Walla Walla Valley (valued at $45): Winemaker's Notes: One of the coolest growing years in Washington State recent history, the 2010 growing season contributed to one of the most promising vintages in a decade. After a wet spring and later than normal bud break, lighter berry weights set the stage for reduced yields. An Indian summer brought warm weather and great sun exposure through the month of October, leading to fruit with higher natural acidity that was allowed to hang longer on the vine resulting in intense flavors and great balance. Critical Acclaim: WS93 Wine Spectator - "Dark, pure and focused, delivering a gorgeous mouthful of rich, rose petal-accented blackberry, black olive and tar flavors that linger enticingly on the polished finish." W&S91 Wine & Spirits - "From Les Collines, the iconic syrah vineyard owned by Pepper Bridge, this savory, stylish red leads with scents of smoke and dark cherry, the dusty tannins recalling the soils of windblown loess. A hint of Les Collines’ gamey accent adorns the finish, suggesting a pairing of rosemary rubbed lamb chops." Donated by the Rishniw Family.
