Description

Item description: 5 bottles of archetypal American varietals, including:

  • 2011 Gundlach Bundschu Sonima Valley Merlot (valued at $44): A fine and savory, balanced, plush and full-bodied merlot here from Gundlach Bundschu. Wood influence is a little pronounced for the time being, but should integrate in time, and this clearly has the required depth of fruit, alongside earthy and spicy elements, to ensure future balance. Nicely dialed all around, best after 2018. Tasted May 2015. Score - 90. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, May 20, 2015) Donated by the Stewart Family.

  • 2008 La Crema Bennett Valley Pinot Noir (valued at $40): Winemaker’s notes for 2012 vintage: Bennett Valley Pinot Noir has vibrant notes of loganberry and dark plum intertwined with subtle hints of coffee bean and clove, leading to vivid pomegranate and a touch of molasses on the finish. Donated by the Stewart Family.

  • 2012 Grgich Hills Napa Valley Chardonnay (valued at $38): Winemaker's notes: Miljenko "Mike" Grgich has been called "The King of Chardonnay" since the winery began in 1977, and you can taste why in this classically-styled wine. We did not allow the Chardonnay to undergo malolactic fermentation, preserving its natural acidity. The wine displays crisp Fuji apple, honeydew melon, and a hint of cashew nut aromas and flavors. Enjoy with fresh seafood, roasted chicken, grilled pork, and creamy cheeses. Critical Acclaim: Wilfred Wong of Wine.com - "One of California's most important Chardonnay producers! Why? The Chicago Tribune called the 1977 Grgich Hills "The Best Chardonnay in the World" That wine took 1st Place amongst 221 chards from around the world in an historic tasting in May 1980. Now back to the present, the 2012 Grgich Hills starts out with invitingly creamy, with a solid apple core notes; really excelling on the palate, with bright apple and mineral, this one delivers like few can. Drinks well now and will surely improve over time. I'd like this one with Rebecca's roast Fulton Valley Farms air chilled organic chicken. This would be a match made in heaven. Organically grown grapes with organically raised chicken. (Tasted: May 19, 2015, San Francisco, CA)" Donated by the Muraki Family.

  • 2013 Henderson Trail Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (valued at $34): A vibrant wine that offers zippy acidity that leads with bright red cherries, black tea, and raspberries and finishes with bright red fruit, cloves, and vanilla. Donated by the Sardiello/Taylor Family.

  • 2013 Main & Geary Sonoma County Chardonnay (valued at $28): It has a beautiful golden hue. On the bouquet, it is on the sweeter side with notes of lemons and pineapple. I loved the silky and buttery texture. The tropical flavors really stand out in this wine. There are small hints of vanilla. It is not an oaky chardonnay, and much more on the softer side than I anticipated. Donated by the Oberdorfer Family.
