Reading is a fundamental skill that can shape a child’s future and cultivating early reading skills is one of the best ways to create a lifelong reader. The Glenview PTA is dedicated to making sure all of our students have the same opportunity to develop their reading skills.

With 17.5% of our students reading at least one grade below proficiency, last year the PTA applied for, and received grant to funds to initiate a Small Group Intensive Intervention using Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI). Participants in the program work in small reading groups and receive specialized attention to their individualized needs. LLI program started this past December with 22 participants from the 4^th and 5^th graders, we are thrilled with the results:

Within the first three months:

• Almost all students improved at least 1 reading level or higher


• Majority of participants improved at least 3 reading levels, the equivalent of one full year of school


• 8 students already graduated from the program!

This amazing program has been expanded to include 1^st – 3^rd grade as well as some additional 4^th grade students. In order to be able to continue to offer this program next year, we need your support.

The initial grant is a biennial grant meaning that we are responsible for funding the entire program this year. We cannot do this without you. 100% of your donation to this year’s Fund-a-Need will directly support the Reading Intervention program for next year ensuring our students continue to get the support they need.
