Description

This is a Burley & Co. antique rose and laurel leaf serving bowl with gilded edging. It measures 8" across.

Regarding the marks on the bottom: Charles Haviland, nephew of the founder of the Haviland China company, owned and managed his own china company. In 1882 he sold his firm and it became E. Gerard et Dufraiuseix (G.D.M.). In 1898 it adopted G.D.A. for its American exports, the “A” standing for Abbott, their New York importer and distributor. The firm was incorporated as of January 1, 1901 as Porcelaines G.D.A. Burley and Company was founded in 1884 from the former Burley and Tyrell, who had advertised themselves as the largest importers of china and glassware and were based out of Chicago.
