"San Clemente, Early Morning" by renowned local painter Rick Delanty. The print is on canvas and is unframed.

Artist's Comments:

This commissioned work was to be about the classic quality of San Clemente: its pristine beaches, temperate weather, pure air and jewel-colored water, surfing , beach walks, and of course, its enduring pier stretching far out into the ocean. My research consisted of running that beach, swimming around the pier, and drawing and painting it from multiple angles. To me, the complexity of the piling patterns contrasted with the simplicity of the air spaces between and the freedom of the misty and pure blue sky. Architecture contrasts with nature. Warm colors contrast with cool. Ultimately, the painting is about history, freedom, nature, and the blessing of living in a place like this.

About the Artist:

A California native, Rick J. Delanty has been painting landscapes and seascape for over three decades. Paralleling his painting career, he taught advanced painting and drawing in public education until 2006. He terms his style “expressionistic realism,” an exuberant calligraphy of color and brushstroke which conveys emotion and movement within a realistic setting.

Delanty’s work has been included in invitational plein air events across the West, and has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the nation. Delanty has received awards at regional, national and international levels, including Best of Show in 2014 from Plein Air Magazine editor Stephen Doherty in “The American Landscape” national exhibition, Outstanding Acrylic in the international “Boldbrush” painting competition, Best of Show in the 2013 ISAP Online Exhibition, Best of Show at the Borrego Plein Air Invitational, two awards in the Sedona Invitational, the Peterson Award at the annual exhibition of the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic, and both the Boseker and Surfrider awards at the Laguna Plein Air Invitational at the Laguna Art Museum. . Rick served as curator for the “California Impressionism” show in 2015 at the Huntington Beach Art Center in California, selecting over 100 paintings for a contemporary exhibition of artists from the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.

This past year his work has been selected for four national shows: the OPA’s 24th National Exhibition, the OPA 2015 Western Regional Exhibition, the 18th International Society of Acrylic Painters, and the 16th American Impressionist Society National Exhibition. This past summer, his painting “San Mateo Valley” was awarded second place in the “Paint San Clemente” competition by jurors Lori Putnam and John Cosby.

Rick is a member of  the California Art Club, and a Signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, the International Society of Acrylic Painters, and the American Impressionist Society. He is active as well in Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA), and is a juried member of Landscape Artists International.

His work appears in Painting in Acrylics, the Indispensable Guide, by Lorena Kloosterboer.

More of his work may be viewed on his website at www.delantyfineart.com, or at his studio gallery in San Clemente, California.
