Nancy Richards West has been a professional painter on Chincoteague and Assateague Islands for more than 35 years. Nancy was chosen as the first Resident Artist for Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, and in 1996 was chosen to represent Virginia at The White House Easter Festivities. She also participates in prestigious wildlife and fine arts festivals throughout the East Coast, and is represented by numerous galleries.

In addition to her wildlife paintings created in her studio, Nancy also paints "en plein air," or "in the open air," a tradition of early painters like the French Impressionists. She can be seen around town and on Assateague Island, painting the marshes, beaches and skies of her hometown. Her ability to capture the light and color of the moment make her work popular with collectors, and keep her paintings and prints in high demand.
