Hand Woven Hammock by Chris Gordon

Description
Out of hammock weaving retirement, beloved Broadwater teacher Chris Gordon has woven a cotton rope hammock for Broadwater's 50th Anniversary.
From the weaver...
This is known as a Twin Oaks style hammock, named after an alternative community in western Virginia which made them to raise funds. It is very similar in style to the more famous Pawleys Island hammock. It consists of approximately 900 feet of soft cotton rope (600’ in the body, 300’ in the ends), and (for me, anyway) takes about 8 hours to complete (not including preparation of the spreaders).
The spreaders are made from white oak. Sometimes I make them from scratch, but wherever possible I “recycle” spreaders from hammocks whose rope has deteriorated beyond repair; a little planing, sanding, and varnishing usually make them as good as new. These particular spreaders began life as a Pawley’s Island hammock (the logo plate outline is still faintly visible on one of them).
You will notice a splice in the body of the hammock. For the first time ever, the roll of rope came with a flaw; although it was not likely to part, aesthetically I thought it better to call on my expert brother Croxton to replace the flaw with a proper splice.
Thanks for supporting Broadwater with your purchase; I hope it gives you many, many years of relaxing comfort.
Chris Gordon
