Warning Sign (No. 4), 2015
Ink on paper and paper inlay
30 x 22.5 inches
Warning Sign (No. 4) belongs to Tim Clifford’s Threat Assessment series, a body of work exploring our relationship to violence, guns, and fear, through the imagery of early 20th century carnival shooting galleries. Clifford began work on the series in the aftermath of the mass shooting at his childhood elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut in December 2012. The stark black and white drawings contrast the delicacy of the paper surface with the violence invited by the originals.
