Alison Lowe (Platt) is a representational artist who looks at all her work as an exploration of both process and emotion. Her energy and charisma towards the creative process is at the heart of her art. Whether painting, drawing, or creating Mixed Media...it's the link between process and emotion that connects all of her work.
Alison grew up in Livingston, New Jersey and attended George Washington University, where she was a dual major of Fine Art and Art History. After graduation, she moved to California and spent 10 years engrossed in Plein-Air painting as well as American Impressionism. While her children were young, she studied with contemporary artist George Small, whose studio was down the street.
It was there that her artistic interest opened up to new subjects and new media. She has a deep interest in the spiritual and energetic fields that are within each of us and hopes to convey this through her art. Alison takes her art seriously, but not herself. She is the eternal optimist. Regardless of the medium she is working with, her love of nature and the human form is evident. Alison also is dedicated to spreading awareness of the value of art in everyday life, especially within her community. While her kids were young, she spent years coordinating the elementary school's NPTA "Reflections" art event, including school-wide art shows, seen in a gallery-type setting, where the kids who created the art, felt pride and others could truly appreciate. During this time she also taught kids privately in small group settings so they could build connections along with gaining confidence in their artistic expression.
Alison is currently represented by the TAG Art Gallery in the Bergamot Station Arts Complex in Santa Monica. Along with having 3 solo shows, she has spent the past 3 years coordinating and curating their annual All-Member Show, and has linked it with various local charities, once again with community in mind. This past January, the All-Member Show reached a new height of awareness when collaborating with L.A. based Homeboy Industries, in a landmark show, tying the power and connection of art, healing and kinship. Her next solo show will be mid-April at the TAG Gallery.
