Description
Hand-carved in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, out of one piece of Serpentine stone, this particular stone comes in over 300 color variations. Even the artist never knows the color of the piece until it is finally polished. Serpentine is a form of talc. It is a mineral that sometimes forms the greater part of a rock and, being relatively soft, it provides an excellent medium for carving.
All wood and stone carvings from Zimbabwe are done with manual tools – no electric tools are used! Because all the carvings are hand-made, each piece is one of a kind unique and authentic premium quality work of art.
Zimbabwean carvers are the best in Africa as they are very talented, self-taught, seasoned artists with several years of experience. This is their livelihood and they thrive on the tourist industry to support their business. This particular carving took approximately three weeks to complete. We know this because we, the Makan family, originally come from Zimbabwe and we specialize in African Art!
The carving stands 20" tall.
