Creative Writing Class from Writopia Lab

Item Number: 286
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
A one-hour semi-private creative writing workshop for two young writers or teens, taught by an award-winning Writopia Lab teacher (and P.S. 84 parent) Catherine Schneider. The workshop has a $190 value!
WHO: Writopia workshops are geared for students aged 7-18. Catherine began teaching at Writopia in 2012, earning Teacher Recognition Awards in 2014 and 2015 from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and Writopia Lab.
WHAT: A workshop for young writers who are new to Writopia. The class will incorporate original, engaging writing exercises to help any writer—reluctant or enthusiastic—create, edit, and complete a piece of short fiction. The workshop will be tailored to the writers’ interests. Writopia makes writing fun!
WHERE: Writopia’s headquarters on the Upper West Side, a local coffee shop, or some other mutually convenient location.
WHEN: A Saturday or Sunday afternoon before December 31, 2016.
WHY: Writopia benefits both enthusiastic and reluctant writers. In 2015, about 15% of our participants described themselves as reluctant writers — most of whom “hated” writing when they enrolled. By the end of the trimester, 96% of our writers said that they “liked” or “loved” writing. Writopia provides super fun, creative and intellectual engagement and high-level literacy instruction to children and teens from all backgrounds. The impact: our writers of all ages win more writing recognition than any other group of children and teens in the country.

WHAT OTHER PARENTS SAY: "My son has cultivated a complete love of writing through his time at Writopia. He is as excited to go to the weekly workshops as he would be to any of his other fun activities, sometimes even more. He also now writes on his own at home. Writopia had had such a positive impact on not just his writing but in his ability to creatively express himself. " A Writopia Parent
