Description
Winemakers from around Napa Valley say that the 2013 reds offer intensity, complexity and freshness. This is your chance to taste why they're so excited!
Winemaker Joel Gott described Napa Valley's 2013 Vintage: "Overall 2013 was one of the greatest vintages in the last 20 years. The colors, the tannins and what Mother Nature gave us - the ultimate weather package."
You are bidding on 1 bottle each of:
- Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (91 points Robert Parker)
Winemaker notes:
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon showcases classic Cabernet aromas of blackberry and blueberry with hints of baking spices and tobacco followed by layers of dark berries, graphite and cocoa powder on the palate. Full-bodied and dense with beautifully integrated oak and sweet tannins throughout the lingering finish.
Robert Parker:
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a strong effort from Joseph Phelps and possibly could turn out to be one of the best Napa bottlings they have made in many a year. The wine saw about 45% new oak (55% French, 45% American) and is opaque purple in color, with a classic Cabernet expression of tobacco leaf, blackcurrants, licorice and Christmas fruitcake. It is full-bodied, dense, opulent and concentrated, especially for the introductory Cabernet Sauvignon in the Joseph Phelps stable. No doubt, the fruit coming from 100% estate vineyards has certainly added quality to this offering. This should drink well for up to 20 or more years. - Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (94 points Robert Parker)
Winemaker notes:
The 2013 growing season was another great one in Napa Valley. Deep, red and opulent in color, this wine opens with the vibrant scent of dark cherry and blackberry, subtly layered with warm notes of vanilla. The palate is explosive, bright, balanced – cassis at the center, with flourishes of cocoa and sweet tobacco that provide nuance and continually shifting points of interest. Velvety meshed tannins make this wine lush yet structured, with a texture that grabs attention, expands and unfolds. Fruit, oak and acidity are held in balance throughout the long, drawn-out finish.
Robert Parker:
A beautiful ripe, plump, fat and opulent style of Cabernet Sauvignon that Caymus has pioneered, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense purple color, loads of juicy blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, low acidity and no real evidence of oak, but a nice, plush, full-bodied opulence. This is irresistible, especially for a Cabernet Sauvignon coming in at 14.9% natural alcohol. Drink it over the next decade or more - Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (96 points Robert Parker)
Winemaker notes:
The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been Chappellet's flagship wine for more than three decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and aging potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and further elevates flavor complexity.
Robert Parker:
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature from Chappellet, a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, is a stunner. Moreover, it’s a pretty realistic value for a top-notch Cabernet from California. Of course, it’s a great vintage and they’ve nailed it. Deep ruby/purple color, notes of blueberry, blackberry, with cassis, camphor and spring flowers, the wine is full-bodied, powerful (14.8% natural alcohol), layered with supple tannins and a long, long finish. This wine can be drunk now, or cellared for 25 or more years.
