Description
The Recognition of Henry David Thoreau: Selected Criticism Since 1848, edited by Wendell Glick, 1969 (first edition), hardcover with dusk jacket. Cover faded at extreme edges, dusk jacket has some chips at top of spine but otherwise is in excellent condition, text is in fine condition (no writing, no highlighting, no inscriptions, not an ex-library book). The book is a collection of critiques of Thoreau’s literary works from 1848 until the 1960s, including essays and reviews from such authors as Lydia Maria Child, George William Curtis, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, Bronson Alcott, Henry Salt, Mark van Doren, N. C. Wyeth, Joseph Wood Krutch, Walter Harding, Joseph Moldenhauer, etc. The editor tried to include material that was influential in the making of Thoreau’s modern reputation.
