Description

Alma Handmade Chocolates can’t guarantee that their solid-chocolate depiction of the Buddha will elevate you to nirvana but they do feel that dark chocolate probably contributes to one of the Four Noble Truths. Peace of mind.

While you're on the site check out their other icons, bon bons (OMG), bars, and toffees

In 2004, Alma owner Sarah Hart wondered why so many chocolate easter bunnies were so awful. The chocolate was waxy, the designs tacky. Theobroma, Latin for chocolate, held so much promise. It was, after all, the food of the gods. This simple idea launched Alma Chocolate. Sarah marketed these first products — molded chocolate “Icons,” sculptures of religious and cultural figures that were hand-gilded with 23-karat gold leaf — at friends’ retail stores and street fairs, where they were an immediate success.

When Sarah’s kitchen became too small to keep up with orders, she began selling at the Farmer’s Market, where she still keeps a booth on Saturdays. She also has two shops in Portland, Oregon.
