"I've learned how similiar we are as human beings, and how dissimilar we are as cultures" says Larry Snider of his photographic capturing of distant lands. This photograph contains elements of both the familiar and exotic.

In this photo, taken in May of 2010, Larry was photographing at Dzoge Gompa Monastery in Quingchai (formerly known as Amdo). While there he discovered a small room next to the main temple to which novice monks would repair in order to get hot water for tea to give to the ordained monks while chanting. "People, more or less, streamed through there" he says "and I gave out several polaroid (portrait) shots. This man, who had been praying in the temple, wanted a photo. I loved his glasses and took away his prayer wheel for a few seconds in order to get this shot."

Larry Snider has been taking photographs in locations around the world for 30 years and has exhibited them in numerous shows. He usually documents the people and landscape of a particular region, making a personal connection with that place and its culture. His work is in the permanent collections of over 20 museums including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson.
