Description
Costa Rican Sea Turtle Adventure - Experience Costa Rica with the access that Nueva tenth graders enjoyed during their February trip to Playa Grande. The trip will be led by Dr. George Shillinger, the executive director of the trust and environmental conservationist since 1986. With the knowledge and expertise of Dr. Shillinger, you will have an extraordinary opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural world.
Your accommodations will be in a private compound at the research station with a living area, kitchen and three bedrooms that sleep up to 16. Amenities include a private pool surrounded by hammocks, outdoor showers, beach access, and a 24-hour security guard on site. Included also is a $1,500 credit for excursions such as a sunset sailing voyage, SCUBA diving at one of the nearby islands, zip-lining through the jungle, a day trip to an active volcano, or sport fishing for billfish and tuna. Meals are not included.
About The Leatherback Trust: a non-governmental organization dedicated to the conservation and study of sea turtles and freshwater turtles, with special regard for the leatherback sea turtle. The Leatherback Trust was founded in 2000 to help consolidate Las Baulas National Marine Park, one of the last major nesting site for the critically endangered leatherback turtle in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The park protects Playa Grande, Playa Ventanas, Playa Langosta, the ocean out to 12 nautical miles, wetlands, highlands, and the coast inland to 125 m from the high tide line.
The Leatherback Trust also supports other sea turtle conservation initiatives throughout Costa Rica and around the world. The Leatherback Trust currently supports conservation projects for the leatherback, green and olive ridley sea turtles in Costa Rica; leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles in South Africa; loggerhead sea turtles in Greece; and hawksbill sea turtles in the US Virgin Islands.
