This family-run Syrian bakery has been around for more than 70 years, and once you bite into one of their homemade triangular savory pies, you’ll understand why. A whole-wheat pocket is stuffed with fresh ribbons of spinach and onions; an even better bet is the lahmajun, a thinly stretched piece of dough resembling pizza crust, topped with a spicy mixture of ground lamb, peppers, onions and cilantro. No one should leave before indulging the sweet tooth with a bird’s nest, a sphere of crinkled phyllo dough filled with a mound of sticky minced pistachios and honey.
